Brett’s Blankets allows anyone anywhere in the world to become a Blanketeer! A Blanketeer is an organizer of Brett’s Blankets events at schools, churches, community groups, or just between friends and family. After each event, Blanketeers will find an organization or nonprofit to accept the donation of blankets. Brett’s Blankets events are great for many reasons, and as a 501(c)3 nonprofit, can be counted towards community service and volunteer work.
Why blankets?
A blanket is not only wonderful on a cold day, but it is also an item used to provide psychological comfort and emotional security, especially in difficult or unique situations. Our blanket recipients are going through a difficult time in their life and feel very alone. Donating a beautiful blanket helps them remember that someone else cares about them and hopefully brings a smile to their face and heart.
What places accept blankets?
Many places welcome blanket donations. Here are a few organizations that regularly take blanket donations:
- Nursing homes
- Children’s homes/orphanages
- Children Advocacy Centers
- Homeless shelters
- Women’s help centers
- Cancer treatment centers
How do I organize a Brett’s Blankets event?
- Invite friends (or just have a party of 1)
- Decide where your blankets will be donated
- Provide or have friends bring material and supplies
- If you would like Brett’s Blankets labels, please submit a request. Brett’s Blankets labels are not required to donate the blankets. Please allow 10-14 days for labels to arrive.
- Make blankets and have fun!
- Donate completed blankets to your organization of choice
- Don’t forget to take a picture and post on Facebook to encourage more Blanketeers!
What materials and supplies do I need for a Brett’s Blanket event?
The original blankets distributed were fleece blankets. Why? These blankets are easily made with no experience required in blanket making. The only skill is to be able to cut and tie a knot. Other types of blankets such as crochet or knitted blankets are absolutely fine to donate on behalf of Brett’s Blankets. The one blanket requirement is that previously used blankets (i.e. secondhand) not be distributed as Brett’s Blankets.
Our suggestions below are based on material and supplies specific to making fleece blankets. But don’t let our suggestions limit your creativity!
Scissors that are made to cut fabric
(sharp edge and lengthy blade are best since it makes it more efficient and a cleaner cut)

Have fun with selecting your pattern or color! When we buy material, we always look for a pattern that would be fun for a child (animal prints, sea, sky). For elderly recipients, we consider a pattern or color that will be soothing.

How do I share my Brett’s Blanket event?
Our Brett Blanket’s supporters are a close community and we like to celebrate events and share photos of the blankets with others. We would love it if you took photos of your event as well as the drop off of your blanket donation at the location of your choice (if possible). Please share those pictures on the Brett’s Blankets Facebook page and your personal social media accounts, which helps encourage others to get involved in their community!
